Kovalchuk Troubles with NHL Contract

The National Hockey League (NHL) recently rejected a landmark deal between the Russian hockey player, Ilya Kovalchuk, and the New Jersey Devils. This occurred on Wednesday morning, and signals that both the NHL and Kovalchuk may have to reenter negotiations with the NHL to confirm their agreement.

Bill Daly, the deputy commissioner of NHL hockey, said that the deal between Kovalchuk and the Devils was inadequate and unfair. In a statement on NHL.com, he said that the NHL league believes that their deal was against the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The deal was announced on Tuesday, which involved a 17-year contract between the Devils and Kovalchuk with a $102-million US front load and a salary cap of $6 million per season.
